How Fred's Fence Got Started
Fred's Fence began in 2017 with a simple idea: do fence installation right, treat customers the way you'd want to be treated, and stand behind every project. Al started the business after years working in construction and contracting — frustrated by what he saw across the industry. Too many contractors over-promised, under-delivered, used subcontractors, and disappeared after the deposit cleared.
The first installs were word-of-mouth — neighbors, friends of friends, family. As referrals grew, Al brought Casandra into the business to handle estimates and customer relationships. Over the next 15 years, Fred's Fence grew from a one-truck operation into a family business serving 8 communities across Monmouth and Middlesex Counties, with a crew that handles every install directly.
Today, Fred's Fence has installed over 3,000 fences. We're licensed in New Jersey (#13VH13337300), insured by Farmers, bonded by Liberty Mutual, and backed by manufacturer partnerships including American Fence Systems in South Plainfield. Every installation comes with a lifetime material warranty and a 5-year labor warranty. The work has changed, the scale has changed — but the philosophy hasn't.
Meet Al and Casandra
Al — short for Alfred — is the founder and lead installer. He's been working with fencing for over 20 years, including 15 years running Fred's Fence. When you call for an estimate, Al typically does the property walk-through himself. When the install happens, Al is usually on-site with the crew. He's not a manager who shows up for the handshake — he's the one with the post hole digger.
Casandra runs the business side and handles most client communication. She's your point of contact from estimate to project completion. If you call Fred's Fence with a question, she's likely the one answering. She also manages permits, scheduling, warranty claims, and follow-up — the unglamorous work that keeps customers happy years after the project's done.
Between them, Al and Casandra know every customer by name. They've installed fences for the same families across multiple homes, multiple decades. That's the kind of relationship a family-owned business can build that a corporate contractor cannot.
